How to Pass JLPT N4 in 6 Months Starting from Zero

When I started in Kawasoti, I could only say konnichiwa and arigatou. Six months later I passed JLPT N4. This is the plan I actually followed not a perfect one, but a realistic one while working part-time.

Month 1–2: Hiragana, katakana, and core grammar.

I drilled characters daily (20 minutes) and studied Minna no Nihongo-style chapters with a tutor twice a week. No skipping listening even if I understood little.

Month 3–4: Vocabulary volume and reading speed.

I aimed for 15–20 new words daily using flashcards, and read graded short stories aloud. Listening practice was NHK Easy News and JLPT sample tracks at half speed.

Month 5: Exam format focus.

I timed reading sections, learned question traps (especially similar particles), and reviewed wrong answers in a notebook. Kanji lists for N4 became my commute study.

Month 6: Mock tests and weak spots.

Two full practice tests per week, one day for listening only. I stopped adding new grammar and stabilized what I knew.

Daily minimum on busy days:

45 minutes (15 listening, 15 vocab, 15 grammar). **Weekend block:** 2 hours with mock sections.

N4 is not just a certificate it unlocked clearer conversations for my SSW interview prep. If you are studying in Nawalpur, find a study partner or class that holds you accountable. Consistency beats cramming every time.
